At Bucharest, Romania

The 13th edition of the European Congress of Sports Medicine, organized by EFSMA, opened on September 25, 2025, in Bucharest, Romania, under the title “Sharing Knowledge beyond Information”.

On the occasion of the Congress, meetings of the EFSMA Executive Committee and the Council of Delegates of the National Associations affiliated with EFSMA will also take place, along with elections for the upcoming four-year term.

President Maurizio Casasco delivered his greetings during the Congress Opening Ceremony, which also featured the participation of Prof. Fabio Pigozzi, FIMS President, and Prof. Anca Ionescu, EFSMA Secretary General and President of the Congress.

At the end of the Ceremony, Prof. Yannis Pitsiladis, Chairman of the EFSMA Scientific and Education Commission, delivered a keynote lecture titled “From Paris to Los Angeles: Shaping the Future of Sports Medicine Together”.

During the Council of Delegates, held on September 26, President Casasco has be re-elected as EFSMA President for his third mandate: "I am deeply honored by this confirmation and I want to thank all my European colleagues for the great trust they have once again placed in me. During my terms as President of EFSMA we have achieved significant milestones, first and foremost the recognition of Sports Medicine as a medical specialty at the European level. This is an extraordinary result, made possible also thanks to the contributions of my predecessor. The scientific progress developed through years of top-level experience in sport must continue to be shared as a common asset, to improve the health and well-being of all. We will continue to work towards a cultural renewal that emphasizes the promotion of health protection through sport and physical activity at all ages."
